How Do Ducted Reverse Cycle Systems Work?

Ducted reverse cycle air-conditioning systems use a refrigerant gas to take heat energy from the outside air (even if it feels cold outside to us!) The heated refrigerant gas is pumped indoors along copper piping to a coil and a fan (usually in the roof space, but underfloor is also possible). The coil and fan transfer the heat to air that then flows through ductwork to ceiling or floor grilles and out into the rooms. When cooling, the reverse happens; the system takes heat energy from the air inside the house, moving that heat via the refrigerant gas to the outside, where the outdoor unit's fan blows the heat into the surrounding air.

If you want to heat or cool some parts of your house while not heating or cooling others, you can have an automatic zone damper installed in the ductwork to open or close off zones of your home (a zone may be a room or a group of rooms). You can also set different zones of your home to different temperatures.

Airsmart

Airsmart produces premium reverse cycle air-conditioning systems that transmit high-velocity air along small ducts, resulting in substantially greater efficiency than normal reverse cycle, as well as resulting in the opportunity to have very unobtrusive outlets. They are controlled by self-learning, energy conserving, easy to use thermostats.

Round Airsmart outlets are similar in size to downlights. The photograph to the left (if you are on a computer) or immediately above (if you are on a phone) shows three round outlets installed on a wall in Canberra. Also available are linear grilles – an example installed in Canberra can be seen on the wall in the picture to the top-left (if you are on a computer) or, if you are on a phone, above 'How Do Ducted Reverse Cycle Systems Work?'. Linear grilles and round outlets can be installed on ceilings too.
